African Quilts

My blog statistics show a high percentage of visitors end up here because they are looking for African quilts.  If you have not seen it yet, you might enjoy reading my article about “What Makes an African Quilt “African?“  But then, have a look at what Maggie Relph does.

I saw a little of this kind of work when I had the good fortune to be in Nairobi and time to stop in at my friend Alison Farmer’s flat to meet with a few other quilters one afternoon a couple of weeks ago.  Alison had beenworking on a small piece following Maggie’s instruction.  For those of you who really want to make authentic looking African quilters, you ought to give Maggie’s ideas a try!

To do that, look closely at the design wall full of half-constructed quilt blocks in the photo and pay particular attention to Maggie’s choice of colors and printed textures.  Find Maggie Relph through The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles and check out her blog at http://www.africanfabric.co.uk.
