Kenya's Diani Beach: "Forty Thieves"

Along the western shore of the Indian Ocean on the South Coast of Kenya are three very popular villages, Tiwi, Diani and Galu. At Diani, where the beach is at its whitest, a string of beach front houses, restaurants, discos (still popular in Kenya) and hotels entertain locals and tourists alike. While visiting nearby, we called in at one of the more popular watering holes, a place called “Ali Barbour’s Forty Thieves,” to catch up with some old friends over a cool drink before lunch.

Long a favorite haunt of the area’s retiree ex-pats, “Forty’s,” as it is known to the locals, has had a shift in population demographics. It seems the younger generation are taking over, all to everyone’s satisfaction. With direct access to the beach, otherwise lacking in the neighborhood, a multi-tiered bar to serve everyone fast enough to keep drinks cool before being gulped by thirsty patrons and super menu of fresh fish and seafood, Sunday roasts and curries and that unbeatable Number 1 favorite, the ubiquitous pizza, “Forty’s” truly has it all!

So, if you happen to be in Kenya, and just happen to be on the South Coast below Mombasa, be sure to call in at Ali (George) Barbour’s “Forty Thieves Beach Bar and Restaurant.”

Hi, I had the great opportunity to visit as well the cave restaurant as well than the Forty's beach bar whilst staying with a couple of good friends (residents themselves in Diani Beach). I'd like to sent hellos from Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg to Georg and his daughter Stacy, both I met in my friends place as well than in a nice party. The best PIZZA, and coldest whitecaps in Diani. Absolutely fantastic place to lounge and do lots of nothing
