Second in the series of Darned Quilts, this work explored a color gradation more than one of value. The interplay of blues and greens as shapes were cut and shifted creates the quilt’s compositional interest. The inclusion of narrow red strips of fabric in the curved piecing was enhanced by later application of various couched yarns and highlighted with iridescent bugle beads. Rayon embroidery adds lustre as well as color to emphasize each “bubble.”
