Third in the series of Darned Quilts, Bubbles III was built from a set of purchased hand dyed fabrics ranging in color from navy blue through rust to pale yellow – hardly a gradation at all. “Bubbles” were cut and shifted on a three-panel embellished background material.
The work was not going particularly well until I saw a way to build the piece as concentric rings. Selective piecing and careful cutting and rotation permitted the two vertical navy blue lines to be preserved.
The focal point is accented with a tiny mirror (shisha) surmounted by two recycled glass rings, one navy and one pale yellow, from Kitengela Glass.
