"In the Tea"

We had a lovely two-day outing over the weekend into the highlands of western Kenya to visit family who are managing one of the major tea plantations, growing Camellia sinensis. It has been many years since I first saw tea farming in Kericho, and the vistas before us were a sight for sore eyes. Long accustomed to the browns and yellows and pale chartreuse colors of Baringo, the lush emerald green of the tea was as enticing as an ocean of green velvet. Continue reading

Safari to Zimbabwe

We recently went to Zimbabwe to visit family there. Most of our time was spent on safari, the four of us comfortably sharing a classic LandRover for six days of traveling and game drives. The car, thankfully, held up well, not even a single puncture! Roads in Zim are in surprisingly good condition when compared to most of those in Kenya. Because of that, our journeys were relatively easy apart from the tsetse flies, but that’s another story! Continue reading

15th European Patchwork Meeting

Back at home after a week in the Alsace region of France for the 15th European Patchwork Meeting, I have time to pause and reflect. I thoroughly enjoyed being back in France again, this time seeing a new part of this beautiful country, making fresh cultural discoveries, tasting new foods, practicing the language, enjoying my classes and generally having a wonderful time!
